Arthur Fils and Marin Cilic will square off in the first round of the 2024 Paris Masters on Tuesday, October 29, 2024. Here's our Arthur Fils vs Marin Cilic prediction. This article will also contain an Arthur Fils vs Marin Cilic pick.
Arthur Fils vs Marin Cilic Preview
Arthur Fils has established himself as one of the world's best players this season, and the numbers certainly do justice. Fils is at a career-high ranking of World No. 20 and the French No. 2.
He has enjoyed his career-best season in 2024, winning two ATP 500 titles and beating some accomplished names on tour, including Alexander Zverev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Holger Rune, and Hubert Hurkacz.
Fils is 39-25 for the season and will look to cement a Top 20 spot by the end of the season. For now, he aims to improve on his poor record at the Paris Masters, where he has lost in the first round in each of his last two main draws.
Marin Cilic is having a resurgent comeback season. The big-hitting Croat had knee surgery earlier this year, meaning he didn't play for at least six months.
When the former US Open champion returned to action, he didn't take long to rejoin the winners' circle. In late September, Cilic won the inaugural Hangzhou Open, his first title in three years.
But since that amazing run of form in China, he's gone off the boil, as he lost his next three matches in a row including in Basel this past week.

Arthur Fils vs Marin Cilic Prediction
It's a battle between youthful exuberance and veteran know-how. Cilic has obviously had a great career, winning one Grand Slam title during the Big Three era and emerging as a standard bearer of Croatian tennis in the past decade. But injuries have taken a toll on his late career, and it was only in Hangzhou that he made his first decent run at a tournament in a while. It's clear that endurance will be a big factor in his matches at this stage, but his resilience remains a solid attribute. Add to the fact that an indoor hard court gives his penetrating ground strokes a bite, and we might see an upset. He's played so many tie-break sets since his comeback, and there is a solid chance we'll get another one here, possibly going in his favor.
