Katie Boulter and Sofia Kenin will square off in the semifinal of the 2024 Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo on Saturday, October 26, 2024. Here's our Katie Boulter vs Sofia Kenin prediction. This article will also contain a Katie Boulter vs Sofia Kenin pick.
Katie Boulter vs Sofia Kenin Preview
Katie Boulter continued her excellent run of form at the Pan Pacific Open this week as she blitzed past former US Open champion Bianca Andreescu in straight sets.
The match took 15 games to decide. It is the second straight match that Boulter only ceded three games, having done so against Kyoka Okamura in the last round.
In the victory over Andreescu, she overcame four double faults in one game and tallied five aces in the match. Boulter landed 59% of first serves and won 87% of first-serve points (20/23). The Briton won 63% of second-serve points (10/16) and converted five of seven break points.
The win ensures that Boulter will climb to inside the Top 30.
Sofia Kenin, for her part, has exceeded expectations with her run to the semifinal in Tokyo. The American former World No. 4 arrived at this tournament with just 10 wins in all competitions all year and had not registered back-to-back victories since Roland Garros.
But she's been playing with renewed vigor, as demonstrated by wins over Wang Xinyu, Clara Tauson, and more recently, the Ningbo champion Daria Kasatkina. Not many people saw it coming, but she's now on the cusp of a Top 100 return.
Katie Boulter vs Sofia Kenin Head-To-Head
• Sofia Kenin leads Katie Boulter 1-0 in their head-to-head.
• That match happened at the 2019 Acapulco Open and ended in a retirement.
Katie Boulter vs Sofia Kenin Prediction
Kenin continues to make a mockery out of people this year. She's been so inconsistent that it's advisable not to bet on her matches. With that said, as a sizable underdog, she has delivered, winning each of her matches this week as a +190, +130, and +194 underdog. This is her first semifinal in a year.
Boulter has made two more semifinals this year, and each time, she went on to win the title. The Briton is a momentum player and from her track record she doesn't lost many from this position. So, the wise move is to back the higher-ranked Boulter.
