Alexander Zverev has never failed to make at least the quarterfinal in each of his last three trips to Vienna, and that record remains intact this week as he motored to another quarterfinal thanks to a 6-2, 7-5 win over Marcos Giron.

Zverev is yet to drop a set at the 2024 Vienna Open and is living up to the billing as the outright tournament favorite. He only needed 74 minutes to complete the victory, where he hammered ten aces and landed 82% first serves. He won 89% first-serve points (32/36) and 100% second-serve points (8/8). Zverev did not face a single break point in the match but was clinical on return, taking all three break points he fashioned. 

He finished the match with 32 winners and 11 unforced errors, another highlight of his dominance.

Lorenzo Musetti, meanwhile, progressed to the last eight without striking a ball. The Italian World No. 17 was handed a walkover after opponent Gael Monfils withdrew from their scheduled second-round match.

Before that, he had won his opening match against countryman Lorenzo Sonego in straight sets. The match took just 17 games to decide, which was a massive surprise considering Sonego's abilities on this surface and in these conditions. 

With this quarterfinal run, Musetti has improved on his previous winless record in Vienna where he had bowed out in the first round on two occasions.

He has been near impeccable this week, bulldozing his way into the quarterfinal without the loss of a set. He's been hitting his spots and showing incredible authority from the baseline. Musetti will obviously be a better version of a returner than Zverev's two previous opponents, but it is still the German who holds all the cards in this matchup and especially on the fast indoor hard court.
