Daria Kasatkina and Mirra Andreeva square off the final of the 2024 Ningbo Open on Sunday, October 20, 2024. Here's our Daria Kasatkina vs Mirra Andreeva prediction. This article will contain a Daria Kasatkina vs Mirra Andreeva pick.
Daria Kasatkina vs Mirra Andreeva Preview
It was a hectic Saturday at the Ningbo Open, with rain heavily disrupting the day's schedule. Both two semifinals ended prematurely as Daria Kasatkina and countryman Mirra Andreeva progressed into the final after their opponents retired.
Kasatina was playing Paula Badosa who is her closest challenger for that second alternate spot at the WTA Finals. Sadly, Badosa was unfit to complete the match after losing the first set 6-2. She complained of dizziness and thereby threw in the towel.
Kasatkina will be chasing her second title of the season. She won a title in Eastbourne but has lost her other four finals this year, remaking all at WTA 500 events.
In the second semifinal, Andreeva got the better of Karolina Muchova. The teenager led 6-2, 1-0 when the Czech retired due to back problem. Andreeva had previously competed at the WTA 250 final in Iasi where she won the title via retirement from her opponent. But she will contest her biggest WTA final on Sunday at the Ningbo Open.
Daria Kasatkina vs Mirra Andreeva Head-To-Head
• Daria Kasatkina and Mirra Andreeva have no previous history at any level. This will be their first career meeting.
Daria Kasatkina vs Mirra Andreeva Prediction
Both players reached the final at the expense of injured opponents. Daria Kasatkina is the more experienced player and will contest her sixth final of the season. Mirra Andreeva only reached her first career final this year, but she's been punching above her weight for the last 18 months. The 17-year-old has repeatedly shown that she is unfazed by the occasion, and that fearless attitude has already seen her skyrocket in the rankings.
This is a matchup that heavily favors the younger Russian, who has been so disciplined with her baseline game all week. But backing the tried and tested Kasatkina at +210 is too big a price to turn down. With an alternate spot at the WTA Finals very much in her line of sight, Kasatkina will give it her best shot in Sunday's championship match.
