Beatriz Haddad Maia and Katie Boulter meet in the second round of the 2024 Ningbo Open. The match is scheduled for Thursday, October 17, 2024. Here's our Beatriz Haddad Maia vs Katie Boulter prediction. This preview will also contain a Beatriz Haddad Maia vs Katie Boulter pick.
Beatriz Haddad Maia vs Katie Boulter Preview
Beatriz Haddad Maia will begin her Ningbo Open campaign in the second round following a spate of withdrawals. The Brazilian is competing in her fourth WTA tournament at this year's Asian swing.
Her results have been fantastic on hard courts, considering she overcame a very serious back injury sustained in Toronto while playing Katie Boulter. In the last couple of months, she's been to two WTA finals, managing a runner-up finish in Cleveland and winning the title in Seoul. In the midst of that, she was a quarterfinalist at the US Open.
But since that title win in the South Korean capital, she's posted three victories from five matches.
Katie Boulter, for her part, is also competing in her fourth straight tournament on Asian soil. But unlike Haddad Maia, the Briton has fared poorly, winning just two matches in three tournaments.
If you extend Boulter's record further, then it makes for awful reading, only managing two more wins after the grass-court season. As a result of that, she's exited the Top 30. Boulter won her first-ever match in Ningbo by beating Sara Errani in the first round.
Beatriz Haddad Maia vs Katie Boulter Head-To-Head
• Katie Boulter leads Beatriz Haddad Maia 3-0 in their head-to-head.
• All three meetings have been contested this season, although their last clash in Toronto ended after just two games, with Haddad Maia being forced to retire due to injury.
Beatriz Haddad Maia vs Katie Boulter Prediction
Despite her poor record in the head-to-head, Haddad Maia will fancy her chances here at the Ningbo Open. This is actually a good time to play Katie Boulter, whose form has taken a complete 180 turn in recent months. The last time she won back-to-back matches was in June. And with Haddad Maia hitting a purple on hard courts and historically performing so well in Asia, she's got to win this. Give me the Brazilian lefty in three sets.
