Jannik Sinner and Tomas Machac will clash in the semifinal of the 2024 Shanghai Masters. The match is scheduled for Saturday, October 12, 2024. Here's our Jannik Sinner vs Tomas Machac prediction. This article will also contain a Jannik Sinner vs Tomas Machac pick.
Jannik Sinner vs Tomas Machac Preview
Jannik Sinner powered past Daniil Medvedev to reach his first semifinal at the Shanghai Masters. The Italian dropped just five games in one of the most one-sided matches in their rivalry, although the Russian struggled dearly with physical issues.
Sinner was superb right from the off, needing only 80 minutes to close out the match in straight sets. He tallied nine aces and landed 66% of first serves. Sinner won 85% of first-serve points (28/33) and 59% of second-serve points (10/17). He converted three of four break points in the match.
With the win, coupled with Carlos Alcaraz's shock defeat to Tomas Machac, Sinner will end the season as World No. 1 for the first time in his career.
Machac obviously had a big role in that outcome, knocking out the Spaniard in two tight sets. Just like their match at the Davis Cup in September, Machac once again pushed Alcaraz to his very limit and produced some clutch tennis under pressure.
The Czech saved an impressive seven of eight break points, a key stat which ultimately brought him the victory, 7-6, 7-5 in almost two hours of play.
Jannik Sinner vs Tomas Machac Head-To-Head
• Jannik Sinner leads Tomas Machac 1-0 in their head-to-head.
• Sinner defeated the Czech in straight sets en route to winning the 2024 Miami Open in March.
Jannik Sinner vs Tomas Machac Prediction
Machac is already having an incredible season with a pair of Top 5 wins in his name (guaranteed a new career-high ranking in the Top 30 after the tournament). Can he add Sinner to the list?
On the evidence of his performances this week, he's got a shot, albeit a tiny one, and I would expect him to keep this one much closer than their duel in Miami. Sinner will still put him under the gun in the contest, and if he gets another quickfire start, like he did against an injured Medvedev, he'll cruise into the final. Give me Sinner to win in straight sets, with OVER 18.5 games in the match.
