How the tables have turned in this rivalry. A little over a year ago, it looked like Sinner had no answers to the Medvedev riddle. But he has stepped up big time, both tactically and physically in this matchup and is now on the verge of taking full control of the series. 

Medvedev has triumphed in Shanghai in the past, but he's been far from impressed by the quality of the tennis balls that are currently in use at the tournament this year. He feels the balls are slow, terming them as "dead balls". Medvedev's positioning on the court and flat-hitting style means that he has required to play out of his comfort zone this week. But it is questionable if his tactics will be sustainable against the in-form Sinner, who has quickly shaken off his defeat to Alcaraz in Beijing.
