Jannik Sinner vs Daniil Medvedev Preview

Jannik Sinner avenged his last year's defeat at the Shanghai Masters to Ben Shelton by beating the American in two tough sets. Sinner won 6-4, 7-6 against the birthday boy in one and half hours.

In the victory, Sinner hammered seven aces and landed 70% of first serves. His serve was crucial as he was able to save all seven break points he faced in the match. He won 87% of first-serve points (40/46) and 65% of second-serve points (13/20). He improves to 64-6 for the season across all competitions and is into the last eight in Shanghai for the first time.

Daniil Medvedev, for his part, kept his hopes of clinching his first title of the season alive. He defeated his old nemesis Stefanos Tsitsipas, whom he has a very good record against, in straight sets.

The match took 22 games to decide and almost two hours of playing time. In the victory, Medvedev tallied 10 aces to three double faults and landed 67% of first serves. he won 83% of first-serve points (35/42) and 62% of second-serve points (13/21). Medvedev converted two of 11 break points.

Jannik Sinner vs Daniil Medvedev Prediction

How the tables have turned in this rivalry. A little over a year ago, it looked like Sinner had no answers to the Medvedev riddle. But he has stepped up big time, both tactically and physically in this matchup and is now on the verge of taking full control of the series.

Medvedev has triumphed in Shanghai in the past, but he's been far from impressed by the quality of the tennis balls that are currently in use at the tournament this year. He feels the balls are slow, terming them as "dead balls". Medvedev's positioning on the court and flat-hitting style means that he has required to play out of his comfort zone this week. But it is questionable if his tactics will be sustainable against the in-form Sinner, who has quickly shaken off his defeat to Alcaraz in Beijing. Happy to back the Italian here to extend Medvedev's misery in this rivalry.
