Paula Badosa and Ajla Tomljanovic meet in the first round of the 2024 Wuhan Open. The match is scheduled for Tuesday, October 8, 2024. Here's our Paula Badosa vs Ajla Tomljanovic prediction. This article will also contain a Paula Badosa vs Ajla Tomljanovic pick.
Paula Badosa vs Ajla Tomljanovic Preview
What a year this has been for Paula Badosa. After spending the second half of last season recovering from a serious back injury and falling down the pecking order, 2024 has been Badosa's season of transformation and resurgence.
As of this week, she is back in the Top 15 and can make a late push for a spot at the 2024 WTA Finals, something that didn't look possible just a few months ago. She's been one of the WTA's most in-form players on hard courts since the start of August, winning an impressive 18 matches on the surface.
Badosa kicked off her Asian swing at the China Open two weeks ago and made the semis, losing to eventual champion Coco Gauff.
Ajla Tomljanovic has also dealt with injury troubles throughout her career and this year, so it's nice to see her hit a purple patch of late. The Australian recently captured the Hong Kong 125K tournament, winning five matches this past week. She is not a player struggling with confidence.
Tomljanovic is 19-17 for the season and will be playing in Wuahn for the third time in her career. She has never won a main draw match at the event.
Paula Badosa vs Ajla Tomljanovic Head-To-Head
• Badosa leads the series 2-1 although they haven't met each other since 2022.
Paula Badosa vs Ajla Tomljanovic Prediction
In as good as Baodsa has looked in the second half of the year, Tomljanovic should not be such a sizable underdog, especially as she will be determined to carry her winning form from Hong Kong. She plays her best tennis on a fast hard court and will look to dictate with her pacey serve. If Badosa has a rare off day, this could be a very difficult contest. With that said, Badosa should be winning this match, but backing the Aussie to win a set here offers double the return.
Nur’s Pick Ajla Tomljanovic set handicap +1.5
