Qinwen Zheng vs Amanda Anisimova Preview
After a disappointing first-round exit on debut last year, Qinwen Zheng has repaid the home faithful at the China Open with a run to the fourth round of the tournament. The Chinese No. 1 completed a straight-sets win over Argentina's Nadia Podoroska in the third round.
The match took 17 games to decide and about 79 minutes of playing time. In the victory, Zheng tallied five aces and two double faults. She landed 57% of first serves and won 90% of first-serve points (27/30). Zheng won 57% of second-serve points (13/23). She converted three of seven break points while saving all five on her own serve.
Zheng improves to 39-14 for the season and remains in contention to win her second career title on home soil.
In the fourth round, she will meet Amanda Anisimova in a rematch of their entertaining first-round duel at this year's US Open. Anisimova will be up for revenge after losing in New York.
The American got here by beating ninth seed Daria Kasatkina 7-6, 6-4. She preserved her 100% winning record against the Russian (5-0). In the victory, Anisimova won 64% of first-serve points (36/56) and 50% of second-serve points (11/22). She converted four of nine break points and saved six of nine of her own serve.
Qinwen Zheng vs Amanda Anisimova Head-To-Head
• Zheng leads the series 1-0. She defeated Anisimova in three sets in the first round of the 2024 US Open.
Qinwen Zheng vs Amanda Anisimova Prediction
It remains to be seen whether Anismova's MTO in her match against Kasatkina will have any impact in her mobility and performance in this match. It didn't change the course of the match in the third round. Given her documented health struggles, I will steer clear from backing Anisimova here even though she has shown a modicum of consistency in the second half of teh season.
