It won't be the easiest first round in Seoul for Anisimova who will play sixth seed Yulia Putintseva. The Kazakhstani has played sublime tennis for most of this season. She's won a WTA title on the grass in Birmingham and defeated Iga Swiatek at Wimbledon. To prove that she was not a one-trick pony, Putintseva beat Coco Gauff in Cincinnati.

Putintseva is currently ranked 30th in the WTA rankings and last competed at the 2024 US Open where she lost in the third round to Jasmine Paolini in a match where she was berated over her behavior towards a ball kid.

Both players are in great form. Anisimova was unfortunate to receive such a harrowing draw at the US Open for being unseeded. We know her quality when her game is firing. I have to back Anisimova here who has so much power to handle Putintseva's depth and shotmaking.
