Amanda Anisimova and Yulia Putintseva meet in the first round of the 2024 Korea Open in Seoul. The match is scheduled for Tuesday, September 17, 2024. Here's our Amanda Anisimova vs Yulia Putintseva prediction. This article will also contain a Amanda Anisimova vs Yulia Putintseva pick.
Amanda Anisimova vs Yulia Putintseva Preview
Amanda Anisimova was expected to be a dangerous floater in the draw at the 2024 US Open. But the talented American fell to Olympic gold medalist Qinwen Zheng in the first round. Being unseeded meant that Anisimova's good work in the build up to the last Grand Slam of the season ran the risk of an early exit against a top player in New York.
And the draw wasn't too kind for her. That will now happen again in her follow up tournament as she embarks on the Asian swing for the first time in a while. She missed out from competing at this part of the globe last year because of her indefinite break from the sport. Now that she is part of the Top 50, let's see if she will push even higher to get her ranking on upward trajectory at the Korea Open.
It won't be the easiest first round in Seoul for Anisimova who will play sixth seed Yulia Putintseva. The Kazakhstani has played sublime tennis for most of this season. She's won a WTA title on the grass in Birmingham and defeated Iga Swiatek at Wimbledon. To prove that she was not a one-trick pony, Putintseva beat Coco Gauff in Cincinnati.
Putintseva is currently ranked 30th in the WTA rankings and last competed at the 2024 US Open where she lost in the third round to Jasmine Paolini in a match where she was berated over her behavior towards a ball kid.
Amanda Anisimova vs Yulia Putintseva Head-To-Head
• The head-to-head is tied at 1-1 although they haven't played each other since 2022.
Amanda Anisimova vs Yulia Putintseva Prediction
Both players are in great form. Anisimova was unfortunate to receive such a harrowing draw at the US Open for being unseeded. We know her quality when her game is firing. Putintseva has had a great season and will pretty pleased with how she managed to turn the tide after starting the year outside the Top 70. I have to back Anisimova here who has so much power to handle Putintseva's depth and shotmaking.
