British qualifier Sonay Kartal will play Slovakia's Rebecca Sramkova in the final of the 2024 Jasmin Open. The match is scheduled for Sunday, September 15, 2024. Here's our Sonay Kartal vs Rebecca Sramkova prediction. This article will also contain a Sonay Kartal vs Rebecca Sramkova pick.
Sonay Kartal vs Rebecca Sramkova Preview
Sonay Kartal will play in her first WTA final at the 2024 Jasmin Open. The 22-year-old Londoner benefitted from a retirement win in her semifinal match against Germany's Eva Lys. She had led 5-1 in the opening set when her opponent called it quits.
Kartal came through qualifying at this WTA 250 tournament in Tunisia and was pretty much the favorite in every match since, beating the likes of Jaqueline Cristian, Mai Hontama, and fellow qualifier Yulia Starodubtseva. Having started the week outside the Top 150, Kartal will break the Top 100 for the first time if she wins the title.
Rebecca Sramkova is another first-time WTA finalist at the Jasmin Open in Monastir. Like Kartal, she started the week outside the Top 100, although she has spent a few weeks inside the century club in the past.
The 27-year-old Slovakian has had a more testing route to the final, winning every single match in the main draw this week as the underdog. She has accounted for wins over the experienced Sara Sorribes Tormo in a marathon and also defeated the No. 2 seed Clara Burel. Sramkova's semifinal win over Lucia Bronzetti was an impressive result, as she defeated the Italian in straight sets.
Sonay Kartal vs Rebecca Sramkova Head-To-Head
• Kartal and Sramkova have never played each other at the Tour level but met once on the ITF circuit in the past, with the Slovak winning in three sets.
Sonay Kartal vs Rebecca Sramkova Prediction
This should be a fascinating final between two players who have never played at this stage of a WTA tournament before. Although I like Kartal's chances because of unbridled forehand power, this is more of a 50-50 matchup, and I could see this contest hitting the 21-game spread.
