Canada's Marina Stakusic will play Poland's Magdalena Frech in the quarterfinal of the 2024 Guadalajara Open. The match is scheduled for Friday, September 13, 2024. Here's our Marina Stakusic vs Magdalena Frech prediction. This article will also contain a Marina Stakusic vs Magdalena Frech pick.
Marina Stakusic vs Magdalena Frech Preview
Marina Stakusic earned the biggest win of her career on Friday night at the 2024 Guadalajara Open. She outlasted top seed and former Roland Garros champion Jelena Ostapenko in a three-hour slugfest in a match that took 34 games to decide.
Stakusic staged a remarkable comeback. She fought back a 0-4 deficit in the third set and saved four match points to prevail in a deciding set tie-break without dropping a single point. The win takes the Canadian to her first WTA quarterfinal.
Magdalena Frech, for her part, also needed three sets for her own odds-defying victory against American Ashlyn Krueger, which required about two hours. Frech won 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.
In the victory, Frech hammered three aces to seven double faults and landed 56% first serves. She won 67% of first-serve points (28/42) and 45% of second-serve points (15/33). The Pole converted seven of 11 break points in the match to reach her third quarterfinal in the last three months.

Marina Stakusic vs Magdalena Frech Prediction
I didn't give Stakusic much of a chance to beat Ostapenko, and in truth, the Latvian should have won the match quite comfortably in the end (she led 4-0 and had four match points). But credit to the young Canadian who took to the big stage like a duck in water and took full advantage of Ostapenko's meltdown. Now, this is a winnable quarterfinal for Stakusic, who seems to be coming to life towards the end of the season just as she did last year when she helped Canada win the Billie Jean King Cup and at +150 is worth a shout on the ML.
