Chile and Germany meet in the second tie of the group stage of the 2024 Davis Cup Finals in Zhuhai, China. The tie is scheduled for Thursday, September 12, 2024. Here's our Chile vs Germany prediction.
Chile vs Germany Davis Cup Preview
Chile began their Group C campaign with a heartbreaking defeat to the USA, losing all three rubbers in deciding set tie-breaks. It was an incredible scoreline considering just how tightly fought the tie was, and in the end it came down to a few close points.
Alejandro Tabilo, who lost to Brandon Nakashima, won more points in the match, while Cristian Garin, who replaced Nicolas Jarry, fell to Reilly Opelka. But team captain Nicolas Massu will still feel they can salvage their Davis Cup journey as they seek to reach the quartefinals of the competition for the first time since 2010.
Germany, meanwhile, had a more successful first day of the 2024 Davis Cup Finals qualifiers after they defeated Slovakia 3-0. Without four of their top singles men including World No. 2 Alexander Zverev, it was Maximilian Marterer and Yannick Hanfmann who were there to save the day in singles.
Chile vs Germany Davis Cup Head-To-Head
• Germany leads their head-to-head, having won their only meeting at the 2019 Davis Cup Finals Group Stage.
Chile vs Germany Davis Cup Prediction
Germany will have one foot in the Finals if they win this tie (they might actually seal their place depending on the result of the other tie between the USA and Slovakia). For Chile, it's a must-win, and the unfortunate thing is that their talisman, Nicolas Jarry, reportedly has an ear infection and did not play in the opening tie. Alejandro Tabilo, who has been a sensation this year, has not performed to people's expectations in recent weeks and is on a four-match losing streak. Germany might need to eke out one singles win in this tie as they will be favored to win a potentially decisive doubles rubber as Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz have a formidable record in doubles in this competition.
