Top seed Iga Swiatek will face Russia's Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the third round of the 2024 US Open. The match is scheduled for Saturday, August 31, 2024. Here's our Iga Swiatek vs Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova prediction. This article will also contain an Iga Swiatek vs Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova pick.
Iga Swiatek vs Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova Preview
Iga Swiatek will aim to reach the second week of the 2024 US Open for the fourth year in a row. She recently defeated Japan's Ena Shibahara 6-0, 6-1, for her 57th win of the season in all competitions. Swiatek won her only hard-court Grand Slam in New York two years ago although she is not the clear-cut favorite for the title this time.
But if she continues to play like she did against Shibahara where she only lost one game, she will be difficult to stop without a doubt. In the third round, she will face her first major test of those title ambitions when she takes on a veteran.
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova is competing in her 15th US Open main draw. The former Roland Garros finalist came from a set down in her seconr-ound match against Elisbetta Cocciaretto to win 5-7, 6-1, 6-2.
In the victory, Pavlyuchenkova hammered four aces to eight double faults and landed 57% of her first serves. She won 69% of her first-serve points (45/65) and 39% of her second-serve points (19/49). Pavlyuchenkova converted seven of 10 break points but also dropped her serve four times in the match.
Iga Swiatek vs Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova Head-To-Head
• Swiatek leads their head-to-head 1-0. She demolished Pavlyuchenkova 6-0, 6-0 at the 2023 Italian Open.
Iga Swiatek vs Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova Prediction
We haven't quite seen the same number of upsets in the women's tournament as in the men's, with some of the high seeds there crashing out early there. Swiatek will have to be cautious here, playing a veteran who can strike the ball with immense power and accuracy and who has already amassed 20 wins on the surface. Pavlyuchenkova is a live dog here, and we reckon at +225 to win a set here, it could be worth a small investment.
