Novak Djokovic will face Carlos Alcaraz in the final of the 2024 Paris Olympics men's singles tennis tournament. The match is scheduled for Sunday, August 4, 2024. Here's our Novak Djokovic vs Carlos Alcaraz prediction. This article will also feature a Novak Djokovic vs Carlos Alcaraz pick.
Novak Djokovic vs Carlos Alcaraz Preview
For the first time in his long and storied career, Novak Djokovic will play for a Gold Medal at the Olympic Games. At 37, Djokovic is the oldest player to reach the Olympic singles final. And he's gone through a lot in the last two months: withdrawing at Roland Garros to undergo surgery, losing the Wimbledon final, and having doubts about even participating in the semifinal match on Friday.
So, it was a whirlwind of emotions that it all happened at the end of his straight-sets win over Lorenzo Musetti. Djokovic dropped to the floor to let it all sink in. He's not going to be the favorite in the final, that's for sure, but he'll be determined to finish, potentially his last Olympics, on a high.
Carlos Alcaraz is the ultimate test in men's tennis right now. The Spaniard breezed past Felix Auger-Alissime 6-1, 6-1 in the first semifinal. He emulated countryman Rafael Nadal who reached the Olympics final in Beijing 16 years ago.
Alcaraz has not dropped a set at this tournament and has now won 12 straight matches at Stade Roland Garros, including his title win at the French Open in early June. He has also won 12 matches in a row at all levels. His last defeat was a second-round exit at the Queen's Club (lost to Jack Draper).
Novak Djokovic vs Carlos Alcaraz Head-To-Head
• Djokovic and Alcaraz are tied at 3-3 in their head-to-head.
• Their last meeting is one that Djokovic will want to forget. Alcaaz dismantled him at the 2024 Wimbledon final.
Novak Djokovic vs Carlos Alcaraz Prediction
Djokovic said after his quarterfinal match that he needed prayers to play in the semifinal after experiencing intense pain in his surgically repaired knee. But he appears to have received some temporary treatment to cushion him in these important rounds of the Olympics. He'll do whatever it takes and knows it's his last realistic shot at the gold medal. It's the one accolade missing from his trophy cabinet. But he'll need a lot of luck because Alcaraz is playing at an exceptionally high level, and the most I can see Djokovic getting from this match is a set. Still, expect this one to be a more competitive match than their Wimbledon bout.
