Iga Swiatek will face Danielle Collins in the quarterfinal of the 2024 Paris Olympics tennis tournament. The match is scheduled for Wednesday, July 31, 2024. Here's our Iga Swiatek vs Danielle Collins prediction.
Iga Swiatek vs Danielle Collins Preview
Iga Swiatek became the first Polish player, male or female, to reach the Olympic tennis tournament quarterfinal stage in singles. She defeated China's Wang Xiyu in straight sets in a match that took 19 games to decide. It wasn't vintage Swiatek for the most part, as the left-handed Wang played so well from the baseline and matched Swiatek's heavier ball using that powerful forehand of hers and even outplaying the Pole in some of the rallies.
But Swiatek's class shone in the end as Wang battled a leg injury midway through the second set. Swiatek finished the match with 19 winners and converted four of six break points.
Danielle Collins is competing in her first Olympics in the final season of her career. She is the last American woman standing in the singles tournament. As most of her higher-ranked countrywomen, like Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula, crashed out of the tournament, Collins has been the epitome of composure under pressure.
She secured a three-set win over the energetic Camila Osorio of Colombia to reach the last eight. The eighth seed needed over two hours and 25 games to get the job done. In the victory, Collins landed 56% first serves and won 67% first-serve points (32/48). She won 47% of second-serve points and converted seven of 16 break points.
Iga Swiatek vs Danielle Collins Head-To-Head
• Swiatek leads Collins 6-1 in their head-to-head at WTA level.
• All seven meetings were contested on hard courts.
Iga Swiatek vs Danielle Collins Prediction
They have played twice this year, with Swiatek coming out on top at the Australian Open and Indian Wells. This will be their first meeting on clay. While there is a bit of intrigue, Swiatek is the heavy favorite, even though she was far from convincing in beating Wang.
Collins has struggled to hit her spots on serve in each of the last two matches and will need that shot to work overtime to earn free points against the Pole. That being said, we don't expect any surprises here, as Swiatek's ceiling on this surface is unmatched.
