Dominic Thiem will face Thiago Agustin Tirante in the first round of the 2024 Kitzbuhel Open. The match is scheduled for Tuesday, July 23, 2024. Here's our Dominic Thiem vs Thiago Agustin Tirante prediction.
Dominic Thiem vs Thiago Agustin Tirante Preview
The Kitzbuhel Open has been a staple for Dominic Thiem throughout his career. He made his debut in 2011 and has reached the finals on three occasions, including last year. He was fortunate enough to win this tournament in front of his home fans in 2019 at the height of his powers.
Sadly, this year, Thiem arrives at this tournament without any expectations and with a likely first-round defeat on the horizon. The Austrian will formally retire from professional tennis at the end of the season at the age of 30 after struggling to find his best form following his recovery from a wrist injury he sustained in the summer of 2021.
Thiago Agustin Tirante will be the man looking to end Thiem's journey in Kitzbuhel. The man from Argentina is having one of the best seasons of his career and is not far from rejoining the Top 100. Tirante is coming off a breakthrough week of ATP action in Bastad this past week, where he reached his first Tour-level semifinal. He scored a massive win over Top 10 player Andrey Rublev and backed up that result by taking down clay-court specialist Roberto Carballes Baena in the next round. His run was halted by eventual champion Nuno Borges.

Dominic Thiem vs Thiago Agustin Tirante Prediction
It should be an exciting match and potentially an emotional one for Dominic Thiem, depending on the final result. He'll need the crowd to cheer for him every step of the way. At his pomp, Thiem was one of the best players on a clay court and should have been winning this match quite comfortably. But that's not the case anymore, as his diminishing power and prowess have cost him many matches in the past two seasons, forcing him to evaluate his career and decide to retire at the end of the season. That said, he looked very competitive during his last match in Gstaad at altitude and the conditions in Kitzbuhel are almost similar. So, we are backing the home favorite for double the return.
