Matteo Berrettini will play Quentin Halys in the final of the 2024 Gstaad Open. The match is scheduled for Sunday, July 21, 2024. Here's our Matteo Berrettini vs Quentin Halys prediction.
Matteo Berrettini vs Quentin Halys Preview
Matteo Berrettini will contest his fourth final at all levels this season (third on the ATP Tour). He pulled off the upset of the week in the semifinal by knocking out top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Berrettini needed an hour and 43 minutes to close out the tightest straight-sets win, 7-6, 7-5. In the victory, the Italian compiled seven aces to zero double faults. Berrettini landed 79% first serves and won 92% first-serve points (46/50). He also won 62% second-serve points (8/13) and did not relinquish serve for the entire match. Overall, he tallied 27 winners in the match, seven more than Tsitsipas, and the lone break of serve was all he needed to win in straight sets.
Quentin Halys, for his part, will play in his first ATP final at the age of 27. The Frenchman lost in his only previous semifinal to Casper Ruud in Estoril before Saturday. But he ensured he learned his lesson and powered past Jan-Lennard Struff 6-3, 7-6 in an hour and 22 minutes.
Halys is coming off qualifying in Gstaad and this run has been seriously impressive as he's needed to win a lot of tie-break sets to unexpectedly reach the final. He fell outside the Top 200 last month, but with this purple patch, he will re-enter the Top 150 again.

Matteo Berrettini vs Quentin Halys Prediction
Berrettini can rejoin the Top 50 if he lifts the title. And he has a formidable record at this tournament. This is his third trip, and he's never failed to make the final at the very least. He won the event in 2018 without losing his serve. Only one player has broken his serve this week, showing just how difficult it is to get any purchase on the return. Even top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas couldn't get anywhere near fashioning a break point in the semifinal. As good as Halys has looked all week, Berrettini has an edge with a more well-rounded game and clutch play to win the most decisive points.
