Diana Shnaider will play Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the final of the 2024 Budapest Open. The match is scheduled for Sunday, July 21, 2024. Here's our Diana Shnaider vs Aliaksandra Sasnovich prediction.
Diana Shnaider vs Aliaksandra Sasnovich Preview
Diana Shnaider reached her third WTA final of the season. She's 2-0 in her last two championship matches, and she'll look to complete something unprecedented this year, which is to win a title on every surface (hard, grass, and clay).
After losing to Ons Jabeur in her first Tour-level final last year in Ningbo, China, the hard-hitting young Russian has been unstoppable in final matches. This week, Shnaider has proven to be the woman to beat, winning all but one of her four matches in straight sets to reach Sunday's final at the Budapest Open.
Standing in her way is the experienced Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich. The 30-year-old is a former World No. 29 but currently languishing outside the Top 100.
Sasnovich has a knack for beating some of the very best in women's tennis in the recent past, but she's struggled with injuries and inconsistency for a few years now, hence the rankings slide. This week, the World No. 134 has turned back time, scoring a trio of three-set wins. She also ousted the defending champion, Maria Timofeeva.
Diana Shnaider vs Aliaksandra Sasnovich Head-To-Head
• Shnaider leads Sasnovich 1-0 in their head-to-head.
• Their only meeting was at the 2024 Qatar Open qualifying. Shnaider won 6-1, 6-2.
Diana Shnaider vs Aliaksandra Sasnovich Prediction
Shnaider will be gunning for her third title of the season and can become the youngest woman since Caroline Wozniacki in 2009 to win titles on all three surfaces in a single season. At 20, that would be a remarkable feat.
Sasnovich, however, knows she won't get many opportunities to win her first WTA title. The 30-year-old had one foot out of the tournament when she trailed Anna Karolina Schmiedlova 2-5 in the third set of their semifinal. But she's made a habit of fighting back from the brink. She cannot afford to give away such leads though against an in-form player like Shnaider who has been so consistent all year. I like the Russian to win this one. She's oozing confidence right now and hitting with great length. Something about her power will overwhelm Sasnovich on Sunday.
