Barbora Krecjikova will face Jasmine Paolini in the final of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. The match is scheduled for Saturday, July 13, 2024. Here's our Barbora Krejcikova vs Jasmine Paolini prediction.
Barbora Krejcikova vs Jasmine Paolini Preview
Barbora Krejcikova stunned fourth seed Elena Rybakina to reach her maiden Wimbledon singles final. Krejcikova joins the pantheon of Czech-born women who have excelled at this tournament in the past, including the likes of Martina Navratilova, the late Jana Novotna, and Petra Kvitova.
Last year, Marketa Vondrousova made history by becoming the first unseeded woman to win at the All England Club. And Krejcikova will look to replicate her countrywomen. She's managed to upset the applecart, beating the much-fancied Rybakina from a set down in the second semifinal on Friday. In the victory, Krejcikova landed 72% of first serves and won 67% of first serve points. Overall, she compiled 25 winners in the match and converted four of six break points.
Jasmine Paolini became the first WTA player to reach back-to-back Grand Slam finals at Roland Garros and Wimbledon in the same year since Serena Williams in 2016.
She defeated Donna Vekic in the longest Wimbledon women's semifinal after nearly three hours in an epic. She had to be very patient and keep her composure after squandering two match points late in the third set before she won the decisive tie-break 10-8.
Barbora Krejcikova vs Jasmine Paolini Head-To-Head
• Krejcikova leads Paolini 1-0 in their head-to-head.
• That match was at the 2018 Australian Open qualifying rounds, which the Czech won in straight sets.
• They have never played an official main draw match at the Tour level.
Barbora Krejcikova vs Jasmine Paolini Prediction
Both players understand what is at stake. It is, after all, one of the most unexpected Grand Slam finals in recent memory. Krejcikova is no stranger to winning a major, having done so in singles at the 2021 Roland Garros and multiple times in doubles with Katerina Siniakova.
Paolini's misfortune of playing her first Grand Slam final last month was that she had to combat the seemingly unbeatable Iga Swiatek on her favorite court. But the situation is different now.
She's experienced competing on the final Saturday of a Grand Slam, and I think she'll handle the nerves and the occasion a lot better. The crowd in London has warmly embraced her infectious energy, and her forehand is a real weapon at the Championships. Krejcikova will probably be the slight favorite here, and I believe the bold call is to pounce on the games spread and leave the winner up to chance.
