Elena Rybakina will face Barbora Krejcikova in the semifinal of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. The match is scheduled for Thursday, July 11, 2024. Here's our Elena Rybakina vs Barbora Krejcikova prediction.
Elena Rybakina vs Barbora Krejcikova Preview
For the second time in her career, Elena Rybakina progressed into a Wimbledon semifinal. The one other time she did so, she went on to win the tournament (2022).
Rybakina has reinforced her status as the favorite by powering into the second week and avoiding the onslaught that afflicted her direct rivals such as Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff, who were knocked out, and Aryna Sabalenka, who withdrew before a ball was struck because of injury. Rybakina dropped just five games against Ukraine's Elina Svitolina in Wednesday's quarterfinal, taking only 61 minutes.
Barbora Krejcikova has broken new ground. The former Roland Garros champion fell off from dizzying heights in recent months because of injuries. She once went five matches without a win this season before she turned a corner when the grass-court swing kicked off in early June.
And Krejcikova cannot stop winning after a giant-killing run has earned her odds-defying wins over Danielle Collins and Jelena Ostapenko in her last two rounds. She is one win away from ensuring the Czechia flag will fly high in a second successive Wimbledon final.
Elena Rybakina vs Barbora Krejcikova Head-To-Head
• Krejcikova leads Rybakina 2-0 in their head-to-head.
• Both meetings were contested on hard courts, the last being a semifinal match at the 2022 Ostrava Open.
Elena Rybakina vs Barbora Krejcikova Prediction
This should be a fascinating match to watch because of the clash of styles. Rybakina blends power with pinpoint precision with her serve and ground strokes. She's dropped her serve only six times during the fortnight. Krejcikova's run was completely out of the blue, but she had some momentum before Wimbledon, reaching a quarterfinal in a tuneup tournament in Birmingham, and is not overly surprised by the magnitude of her achievement.
The Czech's craftiness and dextrous hands at the net will give her some impetus to unsettle Rybakina. But the Kazakhstani's grass-court prowess is simply outstanding, and not many players can match it. She has won 19 of her 21 matches on the surface, which is the third-best winning ratio at Wimbledon in the Open Era (women's). I'll take the tried and tested fourth seed to advance into a second Wimbledon final.
