The 13th seed, Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia, will face Kazakhstan's Yulia Putintseva in the fourth round of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. The match is scheduled for Monday, July 8, 2024. Here's our Jelena Ostapenko vs Yulia Putintseva prediction.
Jelena Ostapenko vs Yulia Putintseva Preview
For the fourth time in her career, Jelena Ostapenko has reached the second week of Wimbledon. The big-hitting Latvian outclassed American Bernarda Pera 6-1, 6-3 in the third round. The match lasted precisely an hour. In the victory, Ostapenko compiled 19 winners to 15 unforced errors. She landed 52% first serves but won a healthy return of 83% of first-serve points (20/24). Ostapenko won 45% second-serve points (10/22) and tallied three doubles faults, suggesting it is an area of vulnerability that Yulia Putintseva can exploit.
Yulia Putintseva, meanwhile, authored the biggest shock in the women's tournament at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. The energetic Kazakhstani defeated World No. 1 Iga Swiatek 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 in two hours. In the victory, Putintseva compiled 19 winners to 15 unforced errors. She landed 73% of first serves. Putintseva won 68% of first-serve points (42/62) and 52% of second-serve points (12/23). The World No. 35 converted seven of eight break points. It was her first win over the Pole in five meetings. It is also the second time she's beaten a World No. 1 at Wimbledon (also defeated Naomi Osaka in 2019). This is the first time that Putintseva has advanced into the second week at the All England Club.
Jelena Ostapenko vs Yulia Putintseva Head-To-Head

• Three of their four clashes have gone the full distance.
Jelena Ostapenko vs Yulia Putintseva Prediction
Putintseva was once ranked as high as No. 27 in the past, but this is the best I’ve seen her play, transition, and adapt to all surfaces seamlessly. The upset over Swiatek will guarantee her Top 30 return, and I think she is overdue a sizable win like that. Ostapenko is the kind of player who can take the racket out of her opponent’s hand. But the Latvian can be a hit-miss when that power can be neutralized by skillful and crafty players like Putintseva. There is decent value in backing the resilient and disciplined Kazakhstani at evens.
