Second seed Novak Djokovic will play Czech qualifier Vit Kopriva in the first round of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. The match is scheduled for Tuesday, July 2nd, 2024. Here's our Novak Djokovic vs Vit Kopriva prediction.
Novak Djokovic vs Vit Kopriva Preview
Novak Djokovic has been declared fit to play the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. This fortnight, he will pursue a record-equaling eight title at the All England Club. After losing to Carlos Alcaraz in last year's epic final, the Serb was expected to delay his goal of winning his 25th Grand Slam at Wimbledon by at least 12 more months after undergoing surgery for a torn meniscus on his knee at Roland Garros last month. But Djokovic has defied the odds and doctor's assessments to make it to the Championships, which is almost a minor miracle that he's playing. He's already warmed up for the tournament by playing practice sets against some top players and defeated Daniil Medvedev at the Hurlingham exhibition.
Vit Kopriva has the near-impossible task of beating the seven-time champion on Centre Court. Kopriva has never played a Wimbledon main draw before this year, having lost in qualifying in his previous two attempts in the last two years. The man from the Czech Republic is ranked 123rd in the current rankings and has not risen higher than 111th in his career. He's spent most of his prime playing on the Challenger Tour, winning three titles.
Novak Djokovic vs Vit Kopriva Head-To-Head
• Djokovic and Kopriva have never played each other at any level, so this will be their first official meeting.
Novak Djokovic vs Vit Kopriva Prediction
It will be interesting to see if Kopriva can test Djokovic's movement. It's got to be his launchpad if he wants to cause an upset. With that being said, Djokovic has already put his knee to the test in the past week, playing Jannik Sinner in practice and Daniil Medvedev in an exhibition and didn't have any discomfort. Unless something extraordinary happens concerning his surgery at Roland Garros, I fully expect the seven-time champion to get the job done in three comprehensive sets.
