Madison Keys and Leylah Fernandez clash in the semifinal of the 2024 Eastbourne International. The match is scheduled for Friday, June 28, 2024. Here's our Madison Keys vs Leylah Fernandez prediction.
Madison Keys vs Leylah Fernandez Preview
Madison Keys received a walkover into the semifinal of the 2024 Eastbourne International. Her opponent, Karolina Muchova, withdrew before their quarterfinal match because of a wrist injury, as reported by the WTA. It's a real shame, and you have to feel for the Czech, who has only just returned from a lengthy injury break because of the same injury problem. For Keys, she progressed within a round from a second straight final at this tournament, having won it last year.
Leylah Fernandez, for her part, did not break a sweat in dismissing British wild card Harriet Dart, 6-2, 6-1, in an hour and nine minutes. Fernandez tallied two aces and two double faults in the match. She got 63% of first serves in play. Fernandez won 81% (21/26) of first-serve points but only 53% (8/15) of second-serve points. The Canadian lefty converted five of seven break points in the match and only gave away one break of her own serve. Having stumbled in the quarterfinal of Birmingham this past week, she has redeemed herself and is through to her first WTA semifinal on grass courts.
Madison Keys vs Leylah Fernandez Head-To-Head
• Keys leads Fernandez 1-0 in their head-to-head, winning that match at the 2021 French Open in straight sets.
Madison Keys vs Leylah Fernandez Prediction
Before this year, Fernandez had not done anything noteworthy on grass. But she's breached that barrier of losing before the quarterfinal in back-to-back tournaments and finds herself one win away from an unexpected final spot in Eastbourne. This will be her biggest test of the week. Keys is the defending champion and an exceptional ball striker whose game suits grass even more than Fernandez. The American also has so much experience playing on this surface, and I can't pinpoint how exactly the Canadian will get on top of the rallies, especially when Keys' power will dictate the match.
