Paula Badosa and Diana Shnaider clash for the fourth time this season in the quarterfinal of the 2024 Bad Homburg Open. The match is scheduled for Thursday, June 27, 2024. Here's our Paula Badosa vs Diana Shnaider prediction.
Paula Badosa vs Diana Shnaider Preview
Paula Badosa is through to the 2024 Bad Homburg Open quarterfinal on her debut. To get there, she beat Arantxa Rus in her opening match and then home favorite, Jule Niemeier. Against the German, Badosa recovered from a set down to win 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 in almost two hours. Badosa tallied three aces to five double faults. Despite landing 53% of first serves, she won 80% of first-serve points. Badosa won 46% of points behind her second serve and saved four of six break points.
Diana Shnaider is also competing in Bad Homburg for the first time. The young Russian has won each of her two matches in straight sets. First, she accounted for the big upset of three-time Grand Slam champion Angelique Kerber. And in the second round, Shnaider overpowered Dayana Yatremska for the loss of only four games. The 20-year-old won 6-2, 6-2 in an hour and 18 minutes. She hammered five aces to zero double faults. Shnaider landed 67% of first serves and won 83% of points behind it. The World No. 47 won 47% of second-serve points and did not face a single break point in the match.
Paula Badosa vs Diana Shnaider Head-To-Head
• Badosa leads Shnaider 3-1 in their four WTA meetings.
• Remarkably, they played each other thrice in the first half of 2024.
• Three of Badosa's wins over Shnaider have been on clay, including their most recent match in Rome.
• Shnaider's solitary win was via retirement in Hua Hin when she went all the way and won the tournament.
Paula Badosa vs Diana Shnaider Prediction
Badosa is an experienced player, and in the four matches they have played so far, she has been impenetrable from the baseline despite Shanider throwing the kitchen sink at her. The Russian is a fine ball striker, but she can be tentative at times with her shot selection, which suggests she is still learning. One thing I do like about her, though, is her fearless demeanor. We've seen that since the start of the grass-court swing, and her level has been getting better with every match. I still expect Badosa to come through this tricky contest, but you reckon she'll probably need to go the distance to do it.
