Bianca Andreescu and Anna Blinkova clash in the first round of the 2024 Bad Homburg Open. The match is scheduled for Monday, June 24, 2024. Here's our Bianca Andreescu vs Anna Blinkova prediction.
Bianca Andreescu vs Anna Blinkova Preview
Competing in just her third WTA tournament of the season, Bianca Andreescu has already shown why form is temporary, but class is permanent. The Canadian star has been out of action for almost ten months because of a back injury and returned at last month's French Open. Andreescu unexpectedly reached the third round of the clay slam, tallying wins over Sara Sorribes Tormo and Anna Kalinskaya before her subsequent elimination against eventual runner-up Jasmine Paolini. Her next tournament was the WTA 250 in Den Bosch, where Andreescu reached the final, scoring a high-quality win over Naomi Osaka during the week. She fell short in the final, losing to Liudmila Samsonova 7-5 in the deciding set.
Not long ago, Anna Blinkova was on the cusp of a Top 30 breakthrough (achieved a career-high of World No. 34). At this year's Australian Open, she pulled off one of the upsets of the season by defeating former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina in the second round. She has since been to a quarterfinal in San Diego on hard courts, but her form has fallen off a cliff in recent months and is outside the Top 50. She is winless in three matches coming to Bad Homburg and last registered back-to-back wins at Indian Wells in mid-March.
Bianca Andreescu vs Anna Blinkova Head-To-Head
• Andreescu and Blinkova have never played each other before this, so head-to-head is 0-0.
Bianca Andreescu vs Anna Blinkova Prediction
Blinkova's highlight for the season is her stonking win over Rybakina in Melbourne. Since then, her form has largely been dire. Andreescu hasn't played a lot of tennis this year because of a back injury. But she's reaping the reward of taking adequate recovery time rather than rushing things, and we've seen her hit the straps almost immediately. This should be the banker of the day in Bad Homburg, with the Canadian winning in two sets.
Nur’s Pick Bianca Andreescu in straight sets
