Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner clash in the semifinal of the 2024 French Open. The match is scheduled for Friday, June 7, 2024. Here's our Carlos Alcaraz vs Jannik Sinner prediction.
Carlos Alcaraz vs Jannik Sinner Preview
Carlos Alcaraz will contest his second semifinal at the French Open. He defeated Stefanos Tsitspas in straight sets on Tuesday in a match that took 32 games to decide. Alcaraz was virtually unplayable from the back of the court, using his power, placement, and supreme athleticism to outmuscle the Greek. He's been superior to Tsitsipas in the head-to-head, and he's now beaten him in each of the six matches they've played against each other. Now, the real test awaits the third seed as he faces the new World No. 1 Jannik Sinner.
Sinner will officially take over the top spot in the men's rankings on Monday, becoming the first Italian man to ascend to World No. 1. It's a well-deserved achievement for the hard-hitting 22-year-old who is on course to win his second Grand Slam title of his career. Sinner only accounted for one win against a seeded opponent at the 2024 French Open, beating 10th seed Grigor Dimitrov in the quarterfinal 6-2, 6-4, 7-6. After concerns that he would miss this tournament because of a hip injury, the Australian Open champion has looked excellent both physically and form-wise on his least preferred surface.
Carlos Alcaraz vs Jannik Sinner Head-To-Head
• Alcaraz and Sinner are tied at 4-4 on the ATP Tour.
• Their previous clay-court meeting was in Umag, where Sinner defeated Alcaraz in three sets in the final.
• Alcaraz is 10-3 on clay this year, while Sinner is 11-1 on the same surface in 2024.
Carlos Alcaraz vs Jannik Sinner Prediction
We are guaranteed a new champion at Roland Garros, and the general feeling is that the winner of this semifinal will be odds on to clinch the title on Sunday. Alcaraz and Sinner are tipped to be flagbearers of men's tennis and will be headlining the sharp end of the tournament draw for the next decade. This rivalry is only in its infancy, and we've seen some of the classics between them. Expect another one on Friday.
Alcaraz is more suited to this surface and moves as naturally as a clay-court specialist. He's also got an array of shots that he can use for every situation in a rally. Being coached by Juan Carlos Ferrero, who himself won this tournament during his playing days, is a bonus. With all these factors in play, I'll side with the World No. 3 to get over last year's hump.
