26th seed Katie Boulter will play Spain's Paula Badosa in the first round of the 2024 French Open. The match is scheduled for Tuesday, May 28, 2024. Here's our Katie Boulter vs Paula Badosa prediction.
Katie Boulter vs Paula Badosa Preview
Katie Boulter is having the best season of her career. She is the top-ranked British player in the WTA rankings. Boulter is a solid 16-9 for the season in all competitions and won her biggest career title in San Diego on hard courts in early March. Before this year, the 27-year-old had never played a tour-level match on clay. She has picked up two wins, though, coming to Roland Garros, both at the WTA 125K level in Trophee Clarins. Boulter has never played in the main draw of the French Open before this year.
Paula Badosa is ranked 140th in the world rankings, but she was a former World No. 2 not long ago until injuries caused her big fall from grace. It has been another turbulent year for the Spaniard, who has battled a chronic back injury and has already retired from three matches in 2024. But she arrives at RG in great form after reaching the Round of 16 at the Italian Open. This is Badosa's fourth main draw appearance at the French Open. She was a quarterfinalist back in 2021 when she defeated former finalist Marketa Vondrousova.
Katie Boulter vs Paula Badosa Head-To-Head
• This will be the first career meeting between Boulter and Badosa.
• Badosa is 4-4 on clay, with her best result being in Rome (round of 16).
• Boulter is 2-3 on the same surface this season, reaching the Paris 125K quarterfinals in her most recent tournament.
Katie Boulter vs Paula Badosa Prediction
Despite the gulf in rankings, Badosa enters this match as the heavy favorite with the bookies. Although Boulter is largely inexperienced on clay, she’s a massive ball striker, and I wouldn’t rule her out from taking a set against an inconsistent and injury-prone opponent.
Nur’s Pick Katie Boulter set handicap +1.5
