Third seed Alexander Zverev will face first-time Masters 1000 finalist Nicolas Jarry in the 2024 Italian Open final. The match is scheduled for Sunday, May 19, 2024. Here's our Alexander Zverev vs Nicolas Jarry prediction.
Alexander Zverev vs Nicolas Jarry Preview
Alexander Zverev ended the fairytale run of Alejandro Tabilo to reach his third final at the Italian Open in Rome. The German won the tournament back in 2017, beating Novak Djokovic in the final, but lost in the subsequent year's championship match to Rafael Nadal. After ending one great run of a Chilean, Zverev will have to take on another player hailing from South America's western edge.
Nicolas Jarry is the first Chilean man to reach a Masters 1000 final since Fernando Gonzalez in 2007, which incidentally was also in Rome. Jarry's run has been nothing short of impressive. He withstood a challenge from home player Matteo Arnaldi in the opening round. Then he earned a Top 10 win during the fortnight when he upset Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarterfinal in three sets. He was required to go down the stretch to beat a resurgent Tommy Paul in Friday's semifinal. He will be chasing his second Top 10 win of the week on Sunday.
Alexander Zverev vs Nicolas Jarry Head-To-Head
• Zverev leads Jarry 4-2 in their head-to-head on the ATP Tour.
• On clay, the series is locked at 2-2. The Chilean won the most recent clash on the surface at the 2023 Geneva Open in straight sets.
• Zverev is 9-3 on clay in 2024, while Jarry is 9-6 on the same surface this season.
Alexander Zverev vs Nicolas Jarry Prediction
Zverev revealed after his semifinal win over Tabilo that he tore his finger capsule. But that didn't prevent him from hammering ten aces during the comeback victory against Tabilo. He also won 80% of first-serve points. Jarry, like Zverev, has been near immaculate on serve, and his groundstrokes have been pinpoint accurate. There is a solid chance we might see an upset if Jarry brings the same level he displayed during the fortnight, but with nerves bound to kick in as he graces his biggest career final, it would wise to side with the experienced Zverev on the money line. If you want more value in your bet, then the games spread could be worth exploiting.
