The 11th seed, Taylor Fritz, will play Bulgarian one-hander Grigor Dimitrov in the fourth round of the 2024 Italian Open Rome. The match is scheduled for Tuesday, May 14, 2024. Here's our Taylor Fritz vs Grigor Dimitrov prediction.
Taylor Fritz vs Grigor Dimitrov Preview
Last year, we thought Taylor Fritz had a great European clay swing by his standards. This year, it has gone even better. He was a runner-up in Munich, lost to eventual champion Andrey Rublev in the Madrid semifinals, and is now within three rounds from reaching the Italian Open final. With all the big guns currently out of contention, Fritz has emerged as one of the dark horses to go even deeper this week at the Eternal City. And he's showcased his superiority by beating home favorite Fabio Fognini and countryman Sebastian Korda without losing a set. This is officially his best run at the event.
Grigor Dimitrov, for his part, has also not lost a set, but he has had to fight through some tricky matches against the unpredictable Yoshihito Nishioka, whom he defeated 7-5, 6-4, and then ended the great run of Fernch qualifier Terence Atmane 7-6, 6-3. It is the second time he has reached the last 16 at this year's clay swing, but he has not scaled this hurdle.
Taylor Fritz vs Grigor Dimitrov Head-To-Head
• Fritz and Dimitrov are tied at 1-1 in the head-to-head on the ATP Tour.
• Remarkably, this will be their third straight showdown in the series on clay.
• Fritz defeated Dimitrov in straight sets at the 2019 Madrid Open, but the Bulgarian came out on top in their clash in Geneva last season.
Taylor Fritz vs Grigor Dimitrov Prediction
This will be a great watch as two players with contrast in styles meet. Fritz has been playing some stellar tennis on clay, which is not something you say quite often. Dimitrov is a versatile all-round athlete, and I expect his varied style to pose plenty of problems for the American. I like the games spread here, given how solid both of them are on serve, and I would recommend the over 22.5 games at -128.
