We have a clash of top 10 players when Casper Ruud battles Hubert Hurkacz in the third round of the 2024 Monte Carlo Masters on Thursday, April 11, 2024. Here's our Casper Ruud vs Hubert Hurkacz prediction.
Ruud tames big-serving Tabilo in opener
Casper Ruud bounced back from last week's unsuccessful title defense in Estoril to win his opening match at the 2024 Monte Carlo Masters. Playing one of the ATP's most improving players, Alejandro Tabilo, Ruud's patience and excellent point construction shone in a straight sets win that took 16 games to decide. Despite Tabilo's reputation as a hard hitter armed with a pacey serve, Ruud utilized his clay-court pedigree and vast skillset to break him four times.
Hurkacz extends win streak with another gutsy win
It may be the second week of April, but Hubert Hurkacz owns the longest winning streak on clay courts on the ATP tour right now. As hyperbolic as that sounds, we cannot turn a blind eye to the Pole's tenacity and will to win under pressure on his least preferred surface. Hurkacz knocked out Spain's Roberto Bautista Agut in the second round, winning 7-5, 7-6 in two hours. Once again, his serve was a rock. The world no. 8 recorded 15 aces and zero double faults and was only broken once in the match.
Casper Ruud vs Hubert Hurkacz Head-To-Head
Ruud and Hurkacz have played each other on two occasions before this, splitting the series 1-1. The Norwegian's win was on clay at Roland Garros back in 2022.
Casper Ruud vs Hubert Hurkacz Prediction
These two players were destined to meet each other in the Estoril final last weekend but for Pedro Martinez's exploits. The script has thrown up a matchup straightaway here in Monte Carlo. Four of Hurkacz's last six matches have seen at least one tie-break set or a 7-5 set. The Pole has racked up some incredible numbers behind his serve and covered over 11.5 of his total games in every match in that time. If you are looking to side with Hurkacz here, that would be a great avenue to go for.
