Fifth seed Alexander Zverev will face two-time champion Stefanos Tsitsipas in the third round of the 2024 Monte Carlo Masters. The match will be played on Thursday, April 11, 2024. Here's our Alexander Zverev vs Stefanos Tsitsipas prediction.
Zverev eases past Ofner
Alexander Zverev progressed into the third round with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Austria's No. 1 Sebastian Ofner. The German was hardly tested in a match where he maintained a healthy number of points won behind first and second serves (averaging over 70%). Zverev was equally impressive on return, converting three of his nine break points in the match to close out victory in an hour and 19 minutes. This is the 26-year-old's eighth trip to Monte Carlo, but he has only advanced beyond the third-round stage on just two occasions in his previous seven trips. Let's see if he improves on that record on Thursday.
Tsitsipas dismantles Etcheverry
Stefanos Tsitsipas recorded a statement win on Wednesday by routing Argentina's Tomas Martin Etcheverry 6-1, 6-0 in an hour and four minutes. A lot has been said about Tsitsipas' big fall from grace in recent months, but he had his answers to his critics in that whitewash over a dangerous clay courter. Because he left the world's Top 10 this season, the Greek can expect some huge obstacles in the early rounds of major tournaments. And that will be the case here in Monte Carlo, where he will face a Top 10 seed in the third round.
Alexander Zverev vs Stefanos Tsitsipas Head-To-Head
Zverev and Tsitsipas have played 14 times on the ATP Tour. It is the Greek who leads the series 9-5. Tsitsipas has also won four of their five duels on the dirt, including a semifinal match in Monte Carlo back in 2022.
Alexander Zverev vs Stefanos Tsitsipas Prediction
Zverev and Tsitsipas will write another chapter of their intriguing rivalry on Thursday. Excluding team competitions and the ATP Finals, this is just the second time they will meet before the quartefinals stage. Tsitsipas matches well on clay against the big-hitting Zverev, as he can almost seamlessly disrupt his rhythm with his varied style. However, there are major question marks on whether Tsitsipas can hold his nerve in key moments against a player of Zverev's caliber because he has underperformed against the top 10 players for a while. This makes Zverev, at -111, a very astute pick to win this match outright.
