Hurkacz survived a big upset in his opening match at the 2024 Miami Open. He defeated new Kazakh national Alexander Shevchenko 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 to advance into the third round. The Pole's serve was once again the cornerstone in getting a much-needed win after losing twice in a row coming to Florida. He hammered 28 aces and committed just one double fault. Hurkacz did not face a single break point in the match. He won a total of 96 points compared to Shevchenko's 83 and deservedly progressed.

Sebastian Korda also completed a three-set win over Spanish veteran Roberto Bautista Agut. The 28th-seeded American tallied 21 aces to just two double faults, which is a fantastic ratio against a quality returner like Agut (although it has to be noted that he's been declining in the past year). Korda also nullified four of the five break points faced. It was a strong performance to bounce back from his heartbreaking defeat to Daniil Medvedev in Indian Wells.
