Second seed Aryna Sabalenka will face 32nd seed Anhelina Kalinina in the third round of the 2024 Miami Open. The match will be played on Saturday, March 23, 2024. Here's our Aryna Sabalenka vs Anhelina Kalinina prediction.
Aryna Sabalenka
In her first match since the passing on of her ex-boyfriend, Konstatin Koltson, Aryna Sabalenka produced a professional performance at the 2024 Miami Open to beat her good friend Paula Badosa 6-4, 6-3 in an hour and 24 minutes. She landed 76% of her first serves and won 77% points behind that delivery (30/39). She also fared impressively behind the return, winning 53% of points from Badosa's second serves. The Belarusian only faced one break point, which she erased, and will look to build on that result in her next match.
Anhelina Kalinina
Anhelina Kalinina scored a very good win over former Australian Open champion Caroline Wozniacki in her second-round match at the Miami Open. She rallied from 5-7, 3-5 down, and then saved a match point on her serve at 4-5 before prevailing 5-7, 7-5, 6-4 for just her sixth win of the season. The Ukrainian has endured a stop-start campaign, having lost two matches in a row when coming to Miami. It remains to be seen whether that win over the Dane will ignite her season and potentially score the upset of the tournament on Sunday.
Aryna Sabalenka vs Anhelina Kalinina Head-To-Head
Sabalenka and Kalinina have never met at any level before this, so this will be their first career meeting.
Aryna Sabalenka vs Anhelina Kalinina Prediction
There were question marks about Sabalenka's involvement in this tournament, but she cleared any doubt and has asked for privacy at this difficult time following the death of her ex-partner. As opening matches go, Sabalenka served well and played well overall. Kalinina, not so much, and rode her luck a few times against Wozniacki. Against one of the best players in the world, the Ukrainian will not be afforded such gifts. Expect a comfortable win for the World No. 2.
