Ashleigh Barty and Katerina Siniakova meet Saturday in the third round of the 2021 tennis Wimbledon.
Ashleigh Barty is coming off a straight sets win over Anna Blinkova that took 19 games to decide. In the victory, Barty won 69 percent of her first serve points and 40 percent of her second serve points. Barty won 55 percent of her total service points and converted on six of her 15 break points. Barty saved five of her eight break points and hit 33 winners, but she must clean up the 33 unforced errors. Still, it was a better showing overall for Barty compared to her opening match. Barty looks to make the fourth round of a grand slam for the eighth time in her last nine tries. Barty has won five of her last six matches on grass court.
Katerina Siniakova is coming off a three sets win over Coco Vandeweghe that took 26 games to decide. In the victory, Siniakova won 79 percent of her first serve points and 58 percent of her second serve points. Siniakova won 69 percent of her total service points and converted on four of her 10 break points. Siniakova dominated after dropping the first set and she had just 14 unforced errors. Siniakova has six career wins over top-10 players and one of those wins came this year. Siniakova looks to make the fourth round of a grand slam for the second time in her career. Siniakova has won six of her last seven matches on grass court.
There’s no match history between these two players.
Siniakova is not a pushover and she’s had some success on grass this season, but she can throwaway a game here and there at times and hasn’t had much success in grand slam play. We’re starting to enter the point in the tournament where the elite players flex their muscle and the pretenders begin to fade. It’s hard to back Siniakova given what we’ve seen in past grand slams.
Give me Barty in straight sets.
