Novak Djokovic and Denis Kudla meet Friday in the third round of the 2021 tennis Wimbledon.
Novak Djokovic is coming off a straight sets win over Kevin Anderson that took 27 games to decide. In the victory, Djokovic won 85 percent of his first serve points and 69 percent of his second serve points. Djokovic won 79 percent of his total service points and converted on four of his eight break points. Djokovic didn’t face a single break point in the victory and had just six unforced errors. If Djokovic can repeat such a clean performance moving forward, he’s going to cruise to a title. Djokovic looks to make the fourth round of a grand slam for a 16th straight time. Djokovic has won nine straight matches on grass court.
Denis Kudla is coming off a straight sets win over Andreas Seppi that took 26 games to decide. In the victory, Kudla won 75 percent of his first serve points and 59 percent of his second serve points. Kudla won 68 percent of his total service points and converted on six of his nine break points. Kudla faced just two break points in the victory and dominated his first serve. Kudla can clean up the unforced errors, but he’s got some momentum heading into this match. Kudla looks to make the fourth round of a grand slam for the first time since 2015 Wimbledon. Kudla has won five straight matches on grass court.
Djokovic won both matches against Kudla in straight sets, both matches taking place in 2019. The most recent match was in the 2019 US Open.
Kudla isn’t a pushover, but he doesn’t have grand slam success and doesn’t have a lot of success to point to in big matches. Djokovic is coming off a flawless performance and will be unbeatable if he can come close to repeating it.
Give me Djokovic in straight sets.
