Elena Vesnina and CoCo Gauff meet Thursday in the second round of the 2021 tennis Wimbledon.
Elena Vesnina is coming off a straight sets win over Martina Trevisan that took 19 games to decide. In the victory, Vesnina won 76 percent of his first serve points and 64 percent of her second serve points. Vesnina won 71 percent of her total service points and converted on five of her 15 break points. Vesnina faced just two break points in the victory and hit seven aces. Vesnina has had issues putting it together since her return from maternity leave, but she’s still a dangerous player and somebody who was in the top-15 just a few years ago. Vesnina looks to make the third round of a grand slam for the second time since 2018. Vesnina has won three of her last five matches on grass court.
CoCo Gauff is coming off a straight sets win over Francesca Jones that took 22 games to decide. In the victory, Gauff won 80 percent of his first serve points and 64 percent of her second serve points. Gauff won 75 percent of her total service points and converted on two of her seven break points. Gauff got 65 percent of her first serves in play, didn’t face a break point and hit nine aces. While she had a favorable matchup, Gauff is going to be a tough out if she can repeat those numbers moving forward. Gauff looks to make the third round of a grand slam for the fifth time in her career. Gauff has won five of her last seven matches on grass court.
There’s no match history between these two players.
Vesnina is no pushover, but she’s still working her way back from her break and has had issues stringing together success. Gauff was flawless in her opening match and she’s going to go far in this tournament if she can repeat such a clean performance. Gauff is likely going to be too much in this match.
Give me Gauff in straight sets.
