Ashleigh Barty and Anna Blinkova meet Thursday in the second round of the 2021 tennis Wimbledon.
Ashleigh Barty is coming off a three sets win over Carla Suarez-Navarro that took 27 games to decide. In the victory, Barty won 88 percent of his first serve points and 39 percent of her second serve points. Barty won 71 percent of her total service points and converted on five of her five break points. Barty lost a combined two games in the two sets she won, but she had 36 unforced errors, which allowed her opponent to hang around. Barty has won 11 of her last 12 matches that have gone the distance. Barty hopes to make the the third round of a grand slam for the ninth time in her last 10 tries. Barty has won five of her last six matches on grass court.
Anna Blinkova is coming off a straight sets win over Timea Babos that took 16 games to decide. In the victory, Blinkova won 77 percent of his first serve points and 56 percent of her second serve points. Blinkova won 67 percent of her total service points and converted on four of her seven break points. Blinkova saved all five of her break points and won eight of the last 10 games. However, Blinkova will have to clean up the eight double faults to have a chance at the upset here. Blinkova has one career win over a top-10 player, which came last year. Blinkova looks to make the third round of a grand slam for the second time in her career. Blinkova has split her last four matches on grass court.
There’s no match history between these two players.
Barty got three sets out of the way in her opener, so you should expect a more consistent player this time around. Barty was absolutely dominant in the two sets she won. Blinkova doesn’t have the big match experience to hang here, and she struggled big time with her second serve. Barty won’t let her off the hook.
Give me Barty in straight sets.
