Aliaksandra Sasnovich and Serena Williams meet Tuesday in the first round of the 2021 tennis Wimbledon.
Aliaksandra Sasnovich has lost three of her last four matches and is coming off a failed qualifying in Berlin. Sasnovich can’t like her chances any better here to turn things around, as she hasn’t won a match on grass since the 2018 Wimbledon. The good news is Sasnovich has a 50 percent winning percentage at Wimbledon, which includes a fourth round trip in 2018, her best showing in a grand slam. Sasnovich has five career wins over top-10 players, but none of those wins have come since 2019. Sasnovich has lost her last five matches on grass court.
Serena Williams will play her first match since losing in the fourth round of the French Open. This will also be the first time Serena plays on grass court since the 2019 Wimbledon. Needless to say, it could take Serena some time to get her feet under her and start rolling. The good news for Serena is she hasn’t lost in the first round of a grand slam since the 2012 French Open. Serena has also made the final in each of her last four trips at Wimbledon. Serena has won six of her last seven matches on grass court.
There’s no match history between these two players.
While it may take Serena some time to get into peak form, this is a perfect warm up match for her. Sasnovich isn’t playing well entering this tournament, hasn’t won a match on grass in years and doesn’t have much grand slam success under her belt overall. Serena should win this match in straight sets.
