Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Novak Djokovic French Open Tennis Picks and Predictions 6/13/21
Novak Djokovic and Stefanos Tsitsipas meet in the final of the 2021 tennis French Open.
Novak Djokovic is coming off a four sets win over Rafael Nadal that took 39 games to decide. In the victory, Djokovic won 65 percent of his first serve points and 50 percent of his second serve points. Djokovic won 59 percent of his total service points and converted on eight of his 22 break points. Djokovic saved 10 of his 16 break points and hit 50 winners. It was an impressive win for Djokovic after dropping the first set and being pegged as a big underdog. Djokovic hopes to win his 19th career grand slam title and his second French Open title. Djokovic is 1-4 in previous French Open final appearances. Djokovic has won 10 straight matches on clay court.
Stefanos Tsitsipas is coming off a five sets win over Alexander Zverev that took 47 games to decide. In the victory, Tsitsipas won 76 percent of his first serve points and 52 percent of his second serve points. Tsitsipas won 68 percent of his total service points and converted on five of his 14 break points. Tsitsipas probably played more tennis than he had to after winning the first two sets, but he’s in his first grand slam final nonetheless. Tsitsipas has now won three straight grand slam matches that have gone the distance. Tsitsipas looks to win his first career grand slam title and the eighth title of his career overall. Tsitsipas has won 10 straight matches on clay court.
Djokovic is 5-3 all time against Tsitsipas, which includes wins in three straight meetings. The most recent match was Rome of this year, a meeting Djokovic won in three sets. Djokovic is 3-0 against Tsitsipas on clay court. Tsitsipas’ last win over Djokovic came in a 2019 Abu Dhabi exhibition. These two played in the 2020 French Open semifinals and the match went five sets and nearly four hours.
Djokovic should win this match based off experience alone and he’s had the h2h success as well. However, Tsitsipas is certainly no slouch and pushed Novak when these two met on this court just last year. Tsitsipas isn’t going down without a fight and he’s going to eventually breakthrough on this stage. We’re not used to getting him at these prices. I’ll take a shot with the plus money, but Djokovic is obviously the safer bet.
