Barbora Krejcikova and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova meet Saturday in the final of the 20201 tennis French Open.
Barbora Krejcikova is coming off a three sets win over Maria Sakkari that took 38 games to decide. In the victory, Krejcikova won 62 percent of her first serve points and 57 percent of her second serve points. Krejcikova won 60 percent of her total service points and converted on seven of her 15 break points. Krejcikova saved five of her 11 break points and won a third set that took 16 games to be decided. Krejcikova took nearly three and a half hours to win her semifinal match and it will be interesting to see how much she has left in the tank. Krejcikova looks to win her first grand slam title and the second title of her career overall. Krejcikova is 1-2 in previous final appearances. Krejcikova has won 11 straight matches on clay court.
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova is coming off a straight sets win over Tamara Zidansek that took 21 games to decide. In the victory, Pavlyuchenkova won 58 percent of her first serve points and 54 percent of her second serve points. Pavlyuchenkova won 57 percent of her total service points and converted on six of her 10 break points. Pavlyuchenkova got 66 percent of her first serves in play and saved seven of her 11 break points. Pavlyuchenkova took a little over an hour and a half to win her semifinal match. Pavlyuchenkova looks to win her first career grand slam title and the 13th title of her career overall. Pavlyuchenkova is 12-8 in career final appearances and 3-0 in final appearances on clay court. Pavlyuchenkova has won 10 of her last 11 matches on clay court.
There’s no match history between these two players.
You can make a case for either side to win their first grand slam title. Krejcikova is coming off some impressive wins to get here, but she’s also fresh off an over three hour match and it’s not easy to recharge even with a days rest. Pavlyuchenkova has shown a no quit attitude in this tournament and her experience will be key. While Pavlyuchenkova has never made it to this point, she does have a handful of grand slam quarterfinal trips. As I’ve said in the past, experience usually is key at this point of a grand slam.
I give the edge to Pavlyuchenkova to win this match.
