Borna Coric meets Thiago Seyboth Wild in the second-round of the 2020 Rio de Janeiro Open. Who will book a spot in the quarterfinals?
Thiago Seyboth Wild pulled off an incredible comeback against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the first-round, saving many match points! Thiago Seyboth Wild seemed to find his mojo after that and maintained his composure against a player who is better than him. Wild will want to continue impressing his home crowd, but now he meets an even tougher opponent in Borna Coric. Will the Brazilian be able to pull of another upset and make it to the quarterfinals?
Borna Coric seems to have found his form again. Coric struggled a lot throughout 2019 due to injury and lack of confidence in his game, but the Croat young star is now determined to have a much better 2020 season. Borna Coric won his first round encounter against Juan Ignacio Londero in straight sets. Coric was solid both on his serve, and his movement. Coric was able to keep his composure and focus in the difficult moments of the match. Coric will look to maintain this form as he now meets home favourite, Thiago Seyboth Wild, in the second-round.
This will be first meeting between both players, but unfortunately for Thiago Seyboth Wild, I do not see this going anywhere other than a victory for Coric. Coric is over 170 place higher in the rankings than Wild, he is the better player and he is more motivated to have a better 2020 season. Coric will come out and play like he did against Londero and make it the quarterfinals here in Rio.
Borna Coric to win.
