The Line: -- Over/Under:
Sofia Kenin and Ons Jabeur meet in the quarterfinals of the 2020 tennis Australian Open.
Sofia Kenin is coming off a three sets win over Coco Gauff that took 28 games to decide. In the victory, Kenin won 72 percent of her first serve points and 54 percent of her second serve points. Kenin won 67 percent of her total service points and converted on five of her 12 break points. Kenin managed to dig deep after dropping a first set tiebreak, and she saved three of four break points while also getting 73 percent of her first serves in play. It will be interesting to see if Kenin can control her nerves considering she was very emotional after winning the fourth round match. Kenin has now won four straight matches for the first time since winning Guangzhou back in September. Kenin has a chance to make the semifinals of a grand slam for the first time in her career. Kenin has won five of her last six matches on hard court.
Ons Jabeur is coming off a straight sets win over Qiang Wang that took 20 games to decide. In the victory, Jabeur won 69 percent of her first serve points and 68 percent of her second serve points. Jabeur won 68 percent of her total service points and converted on four of her 10 break points. Jabeur got 58 percent of her first serves in play, saved two of four break points and hit 29 winners to go with 31 unforced errors. Jabeur has played 10 sets to get to this point, so fatigue could be a factor. Jabeur has now won three straight sets and has won four straight matches for the first time since Eastbourne back in June. Jabeur has a chance to make the semifinals of a grand slam for the first time in her career. Jabeur has won seven of her last eight matches on hard court.
These two have played three times and Kenin has won two of those matches, including the most recent match last year in Mallorca. Jabeur’s only win over Kenin was the first meeting in a 2017 ITF match.
There is some concern for a possible letdown after an emotional win over Coco, but that’s about the only thing stopping Kenin from winning this match. Kenin is head and shoulders the better and more successful player at this stage of her career and has more shots in her arsenal to get the job done.
This should be a straight sets victory for the American.
