World number 5, Dominic Thiem, meets Australian native, Alexander Bolt in the second round of the 2020 Australian Open on Thursday 23 January 2020.
Dominic Thiem cruised through his opening round match as expected and keeps proving that he is not just a clay court specialist. The Austrian has been able to adapt his game to the hard courts in the last year and this has allowed Thiem to compete in the biggest hard-court tournaments. Thiem is very strong from the baseline and his one-handed backhand is a thing of beauty. Thiem will want to show that he is not just good at Roland Garros when it comes to the Grand Slams, but that he can compete anywhere and everywhere.
Alexander Bolt had an incredible first round match where he beat Joao Sousa in straight sets. Bolt is a very powerful player and is able to cause problems for big players. Bolt is still developing his game it is a shame that he has not been able to become one of the main guys on the ATP Tour. How will he come up against his biggest challenge this year?
This will be the first meeting between these two players and the world number 5 will not let an upset happen. Thiem is in Australia to prove a point, he is and will be one of the best players on tour. Thiem is strong from the baseline, can move opponents around and has a flamboyant style of play which keeps opponents confused.
Thiem will win this match in straight sets.
