Grigor Dimitrov meets American rising star Tommy Paul in the second round of the 2020 Australian Open.
Dimitrov began his Australian Open in classic Dimitrov style. The Bulgarian lost his first set against Londero and looked to be outplayed. However, Dimitrov then came out firing and won 3 straight sets, one of which was a bagel, to book his spot in the second round. Dimitrov wants to have an amazing 2020 and in order to do that he needs to ensure his concentration is always there. Dimitrov is one of the most talented players on tour and with that he will have a great chance to make it to the later stages of tournaments.
Tommy Paul, on the other hand, is a rising challenger level player. Paul has played well against big players before such as Dominic Thiem and showed us that the American could one day be a main draw player. Tommy Paul won his first-round match against Leonardo Mayer in 4 sets. It was a tight match which saw a lot of breaks on both sides. Paul cannot afford that against a player like Dimitrov, so this will be an interesting encounter.
This will be the first meeting between these two players, and it has all the ingredients to be a 4/5 setter. Dimitrov should win this match, but with his inconsistencies and deconcentrating sometimes, he could give Tommy Paul some chances to win a set or two. Both players are extremely powerful from the baseline and we will see long rallies. But overall, there is only one winner of this match. Grigor Dimitrov will win this match using his experience. It could well be 5 sets, but it should end in 4.
Grigor Dimitrov in 4 sets.
