World number 1, Rafael Nadal, begins his quest for his 20th Grand Slam title against Hugo Dellien on Tuesday 21st of January 2020 at the Australian Open.
Rafael Nadal has been in great form, and at 33 years old the Spaniard is still on top of the tennis world. Nadal’s 2019 was stupendous with the Spaniard winning 2 of the 4 Majors and 2 Master 1000 tournaments. Nadal will want to ensure that he can challenge for the title here in Australia and potentially achieve Roger Federer’s record of 20 Grand Slam titles. Nadal had a 58-7 W/L record last year and the Spaniard has will want to ensure he can bounce back from his last match in which Nadal lost to Djokovic at the ATP Cup. Nadal’s first opponent of this year’s Australian Open is Hugo Dellien.
Hugo Dellien, 72nd in the world, is a great player. Dellien is strong from the baseline and has the ability to pull off surprising shots which can confuse opponents. Hugo has been strong at the Challenger level tournaments and was very close to pulling an upset over current world number 4, Daniil Medvedev, last year at the US Open.
This will be the first meeting between Rafael Nadal and Hugo Dellien and I am very sure it is one which Dellien is not looking forward to. Rafael Nadal is basically unstoppable in the early rounds of Grand Slams and the Spaniard will not allow Dellien a chance to even think about a potential upset. Nadal will come out, use his strength, speed and determination to finish this match as quickly as possible to save as much energy for more important matches throughout the next two weeks.
Nadal will win this match in straight sets.
