The greatest tennis player of all time, Roger Federer, will play Steve Johnson in the first round of the 2020 Australian Open on 20th January 2020.
The Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer, will want to achieve history and win a 21st Grand Slam title to ensure that both Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic have more work to do if they want to catch up to his record. Federer has continuously showed us why he is supernatural. The Swiss’ ability to be at the top of his game at 38 years old is just incredible and his 2019 season was as incredible. Federer won 4 titles in 2019 and reached 6 finals overall. Roger’s ability to create shots out of nothing, move opponents around the court, and control the match with his serve, one-handed backhand and mentality will ensure the Swiss will have a great 2020 season.
Steve Johnson, world number 81, is a great player and has a strong backhand which allows the American to stay in long rallies. Johnson did not have the best 2019, which saw him drop more than 50 places down the rankings. Steve lost many matches which should have been straight forward victories and his game has not evolved enough in order to compete with the top players.
These two players have met before, but their last meeting was in Indian Wells in 2017. Federer leads the H2H 2-0 and will want to extend it with a solid performance in the first round of the Australian Open. Federer’s one-handed backhand, amazing serve and experience, will prove too much for Steve Johnson. This match will just be another match for Federer to get a feel of the courts in Melbourne and make sure his shot making abilities are up to speed. Federer will win this match with ease.
Roger Federer will win this match in straight sets.
