In this article we will formulate a Netherlands vs Japan prediction for this World Cup game on Sunday, June 14th at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Let’s take a look at the prediction for this World Cup matchup.

Netherlands Betting Preview

Netherlands comes into the World Cup ranked 8th in the latest official FIFA rankings and they are coming off of a 2-1 win over Uzbekistan in their last match. In that win, Netherlands scored in the 32nd minute to lead 1-0, but they needed a goal in the eighth minute of stoppage time to escape with the victory. Netherlands recorded 15 total shots, four shots on target, and had 65% of the possession. Netherlands has played three other friendlies this year: a 1-0 loss to Algeria, a 1-1 draw with Ecuador, and a 2-1 win over Norway.

Netherlands has qualified for 11 World Cups and they have finished second on three separate occasions, with the last one coming in 2010. Netherlands has made at least the Round of 16 in all of their appearances and they made the Quarter-finals in the last one. In 2022, Netherlands defeated Senegal 2-0, drew Ecuador 1-1, and defeated Qatar 2-0 in the Group Stage, before defeating USA 3-1 and losing to Argentina in penalties. In qualifying, Netherlands finished first in their group with 20 points, which was ahead of Poland, Finland, Malta, and Lithuania.

Japan Betting Preview

Japan comes into the World Cup ranked 18th in the latest official FIFA rankings and they are coming off of a 1-0 win over Iceland in their last match. In that win, Japan was tied 0-0 at halftime, but they scored in the 87th minute to get the victory. Japan recorded 15 total shots, seven shots on target, and had 55% of the possession. Japan has played two other friendlies this year: a 1-0 win over England and a 1-0 win over Scotland.

Japan has qualified for seven World Cups, with their best finish being the Round of 16, which has happened three separate times. Japan has made seven World Cups in a row and they have made the Round of 16 in the last two tournaments. In 2022, Japan defeated Germany 2-1, lost to Costa Rica 1-0, and defeated Spain 2-1 in the Group Stage, before losing to Croatia in penalties. In qualifying, Japan finished first in their group with 23 points, which was ahead of Australia, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, China, and Bahrain.

Netherlands vs Japan Prediction

Netherlands comes into the World Cup with a very high FIFA ranking, but they have played very weak opponents in the last few months. Netherlands hasn’t been particularly sharp in those friendlies and will play a good defensive team here. Japan has allowed zero goals in their last five matches and did beat England back in March. I think Japan is fully capable of winning this game, but I like the under, as Japan loves to keep it low scoring.
