Manchester City are with one foot in the UEFA Champions League knockout stage. They look to record one more victory when they welcome Young Boys at Etihad Stadium on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. The Citizens have a maximum of nine points after the opening three rounds, while Young Boys collected one point. Here you can read our Manchester City vs Young Boys betting preview and prediction.
Manchester City (Form and News)
Manchester City are already on the cusp of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League (UCL) knockout stages having won all three of their group games 3-1. One of those wins came against Young Boys in Bern two weeks ago. Check out what I predicted for that game. It was even more comfortable for Pep Guardiola’s side at the weekend as they brushed aside Bournemouth 6-1, and their fourth consecutive competitive victory saw them end Saturday on top of the Premier League table.
Only once has an English side ever won more than the Citizens’ current run of 22 competitive home games in a row, while they’ve also won nine straight UCL games at the Etihad Stadium, making it hard to see how anyone stops the reigning champions. Even an ankle injury to Erling Haaland may not inconvenience them too much, particularly if Jérémy Doku stars as he did against Bournemouth on Saturday (G1, A4)!
Player to watch: Rodri has scored between the 65th and 75th minute in two of Man City’s last four Champions League games, including last season’s final-winning strike.
We don’t know the details about Haaland’s ankle injury and whether he’ll miss an extended period of time, but even with him sidelined, Guardiola shouldn’t be worried about this game. Sergio Gomez (injury) and Kevin de Bruyne (thigh) are injured and will not play on Tuesday.
Young Boys (Form and News)
While Young Boys are unbeaten since losing to Man City on matchday three (W2, D1) and top the Swiss Super League, they have just one UCL point to their name this term (D1, L2). Already five points behind second-placed RB Leipzig, manager Raphaël Wicky knows exactly what his side has to do if they’re to get anything here, claiming his side must “play a perfect game”.
He’s managed it before when he led Basel to a 2-1 victory here in November 2018, but his current club have never won a UCL group-stage fixture away from home (D2, L5), including two winless trips to Old Trafford against Manchester United in the space of five years (D1, L1). In fact, Young Boys have never won a European fixture in England (D2, L3), with all five of those matches played since the start of 2010.
Hot streak: Young Boys haven’t scored before the 20th minute across their last 11 Champions League games (W2, D4, L5).
Player to watch: Three of Meschak Elia’s four goals for Young Boys this term were their only goal of the game - all three came in defeats!

Manchester City vs Young Boys Odds
Manchester City are massive -1111 favorites here, and backing them on the moneyline makes no sense. A draw is at +1350, while Young Boys can be backed at +4500 if you believe in miracles. For those who like betting on goals, Over is at -278, and Under is at +280. One of the most popular betting markets, both teams to score, gives you a chance to choose between BTTS YES at +190 or BTTS NO at -204. Here you can find the latest Champions league odds!
Manchester City vs Young Boys Pick
Don’t worry about Erling Haaland’s availability. Manchester City have many players capable of singlehandedly destroying Young Boys, such as Foden, Alvarez, Bernardo, and Doku, among others. This game can actually be Haaland’s rest game, so he can return to full strength for the Premier League next weekend.
Many think that City play more like a team without Haaland, and although we’re talking about one of the best strikers, if not the best, in the world right now, the Citizens shouldn’t have problems scoring multiple goals even with the Norwegian on the sidelines. Last time out, City beat Young Boys by two-goal margin. This time around, I am backing them to cover a -2.5 spread.
Oliver’s Pick Manchester City -2.5 (-130)
