Saturday’s (November 4, 2023) Round 11 action in the Italian Serie A brings us an exciting clash between Atalanta and Inter Milan at Gewiss Stadium. Inter are looking to extend their unbeaten streak to seven games, while Atalanta are searching for the third straight Serie A victory. For the second time in Serie A (SA) history, three teams have accumulated at least seven clean sheets within the first ten rounds, and two of those – Atalanta and Inter Milan - will face off this weekend. There’ll be no shortage of additional context this weekend, as Atalanta head coach Gian Piero Gasperini faces off against his former employers knowing victory would give La Dea seven wins in the first 11 rounds of a top-flight campaign for only the third time in history.
After consecutive league wins ‘to nil’, they have a chance to make it three SA wins on the bounce for only the third time since the start of 2022. There’s no place better to do so than at home either, as the Gewiss Stadium has yielded five wins for Atalanta across their last six SA games there (D1).
Player to watch: Ademola Lookman scored Atalanta’s opener in their last two home league wins, but his match opener in this fixture last season ended in a 3-2 defeat.
Gasperini cannot count on El Bilal Toure (thigh) and Lukas Vorlicky (knee). Giorgio Scalvini and Davide Zappacosta are questionable to feature on Saturday.
Inter (Form and News)
Atalanta will have to bypass some H2H history to achieve that, as Inter are unbeaten in nine Serie A meetings between the pair (W4, D5), and extending that to ten would equal their longest unbeaten streak against Atalanta which was recorded in the 1950s. Simone Inzaghi’s men should travel with the confidence of being the league leaders after ten rounds. Another win here would be the fourth time in their top-flight history since 1994/95 that they accrue at least 28 points after 11 games.
Inter’s performances on the road have been outstanding, winning their last five SA away games without conceding a goal, meaning another victory of any magnitude would mark their longest winning sequence since November 2019. Doing so with a clean sheet would mean the Nerazzurri started a SA season with five consecutive away wins ‘to nil’ for the first time since the 1966/67 campaign, a sequence that included a 5-0 victory at this venue!
Player to watch: Summer signing Marcus Thuram has been a revelation for Inter, contributing nine league goals (G4, A5). No player has been involved in more top-flight goals in the first ten games of an Inter season since 2004/05.
Juan Cuadrado is the only unavailable player for Inter, as the Colombian is recovering from an Achilles Tendon injury.

Atalanta failed to secure a win in the last ten H2H encounters (D5, L5). Inter were victorious in each of the previous three H2H duels, while the Nerazzurri won two of the past four meetings in Bergamo (D2).

Atalanta vs Inter Betting Pick
Although Atalanta have a negative H2H record against Inter in recent years, they will be encouraged by the fact that they are unbeaten at home this season (W4, D1). Additionally, La Dea still hasn’t conceded a goal at Gewiss Stadium, but I think that is going to change on Saturday. Inter managed to score in each game this season, including all four Serie A road matches.
Interestingly, Inter kept the opponents scoreless in those four road games, and I am sure this duel will not finish 0-0, so one of two trends will end. The rivals combined for 15 goals in the last five H2Hs. One finished without goals, though, but that is not going to happen now. Inter have the best offense and the best defense in Serie A. That defense will be under a lot of pressure on Saturday.
